COURSE: Biology, Grade level: 9, 10, 11, 12. Prerequisites: None. Biology is a laboratory course in life science. It includes the study of the living things of the earth in four parts: Molecular biology, animal life, plant life, and their interactions with each other This course meets the University of California entrance requirements for a laboratory science. The class will incorporpate a long term project, monthly tests, laboratory reports and reading assignments. TEACHER: Jeff Orlinsky TEXT: Modern Biology. The student is responsible for a damaged or lost book. Replacement cost is approximately $50.00. A textbook is not needed in this class but is available to the student on a check-out basis. Most text material will be either provided the teacher or through library or on-line research GRADING: Students must attend class regularly and punctually. Excessive absences and tardies affect students learning and their grades. It is the students responsibility to turn in all work on time. Late work will not be accepted unless it is due to an excused absence. Make up work and exams will be given before or during lunch only. The student's semester grades will be based on the following: Attendance, projects, class work, tests and quizzes, written reports, labs and lab write ups, homework and student portfolios. A=90-100% B=89-80% C=79-70% D=69-60% F=59-0% Extra Credit: Students may earn up to 10% of the total points in class per semester. No Extra Credit will be awarded if students are TARDY 3 TIMES, ABSENT MORE THAN 6 DAYS IN A ROW, OR HAVE A CITIZENSHIP GRADE OF 4 OR 5. RULES: It is the right of each student to be provided an atmosphere in which the learning process is not hampered. To assure this, the following rules will be implemented: 1. Students are to be in their seats and ready to work with, pen or pencil and paper when the bell rings. NO "WHITE OUT" 2. Be considerate. Please respect the animals and the classroom environment. 3. All eating and personal grooming should be done outside the classroom before or after class. Discipline procedure: 1. Verbal and or written warning, 10 minute detention. 2.
